Almost Enlightenment

Russell Janis Projects, Williamsburg, NY 2021

Almost Enlightenment: A lexicon of royal motifs is used to explore larger issues of political power, decorative arts, and cultural migration.  Using an intentionally limited palate, the works move beyond literal renditions of jewels and precious metals to underscore nefarious narratives embodied in royal imagery. Crowns created during a Residency at Greenwich House Pottery, NY.
