Almost Enlightenment

Russell Janis Projects, Williamsburg, NY 2021

Almost Enlightenment: Royal crowns and Monoprints. A lexicon of royal motifs is used to explore larger issues of political power, decorative arts, and cultural migration.  Using an intentionally limited palate of blacks, and a larger-than-life scale, the works move beyond literal renditions of jewels and precious metals to underscore nefarious narratives embodied in royal imagery. The porcelain crowns created during a Residency at Greenwich House Pottery, NY.
